What Will McCain
"Do To Stop Abortion?"
At Senator John McCain’s town hall meeting in Reno (May
28, 2008) a teenage girl asked, "What are you going to do
to stop abortion?" Senator McCain answered that he was
pro-life, opposed abortion, and supported adoption. He
said he believes America's founding creed and guiding
principle, "all men are created equal and possess certain
unalienable rights, that among them are the right to
life," applies to the unborn. But that’s not all that
Senator McCain has done or is “going to do to stop
abortion."
Senator McCain has a strong pro-life record on abortion. "John
McCain believes Roe v. Wade is a flawed decision that
must be overturned, and as president he will nominate
judges who understand that courts should not be in the
business of legislating from the bench."
McCain will veto the disastrous
Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) making its way through
the Congress. FOCA would obliterate bans on taxpayer
funding of abortion, laws prohibiting government-operated
hospitals from performing abortions, obliterate state laws
requiring parental notification, strike conscience
clauses, overturn the partial birth abortion ban, undo
abortion clinic regulations, waiting periods, ultrasound
requirements and more.
There are 400,000 fewer abortions per year than there were
15-20 years ago. These regulations have saved a huge
portion of those 400,000 babies from being aborted.
Senator Obama embraces the Freedom of Choice Act, supports
Partial Birth Abortion and opposes the Born Alive Infant
Protection Act.
A John McCain presidency will also have a world-wide
impact on abortion. McCain would continue the Reagan
Mexico City policy that prevents organizations-like
billion dollar a year Planned Parenthood, that promote
abortion as a method of family planning, or provide or
advocate for abortion in other nations, from receiving
taxpayer funding. A McCain administration will oppose
treaties that impose abortion as a right on other nations.
Senator McCain will be a thorn in Planned Parenthood's
side. Planned Parenthood gives Senator McCain a zero
rating on abortion. A special section on their site called
the "Worst
of John McCain Playlist" is devoted to telling the
voter how "anti-choice" McCain is. Planned Parenthood says
that "John
McCain is ardently anti- choice - he wants to make
abortion illegal and overturn Roe v. Wade." McCain
would continue to ban the use of American taxes to support
the UN Population Fund which supports China's forced
abortion One Child Policy. That policy also deprives
Chinese women of their rights to have more children. That
policy is so brutal that it is enforced by infanticide.
McCain along with Nevada Congressman Dean Heller voted to
defund Planned Parenthood. McCain would oppose giving our
taxes to this abortion colossus that rakes in over $300
million in American taxes every year.
That's part of what John McCain will "do to stop
abortion."
No president can end abortion tomorrow, but McCains
policies and court appointments will move us closer to the
day when every child is welcome in life and protected in
law.
