Presidents Do More
Than Appoint Justices On Abortion.
Commentators Wrong To
Say Presidential Impact Limited To Supreme Court Picks.
Many popular radio
talk show hosts listened to by millions of pro-lifers have
mistakenly said that the only way Presidents impact
abortion is by their appointment of Supreme Court Justices.
While the appointment of justices is extremely important,
pro-life voters need to know that there are many more
things a president can do to make an impact on abortion.
1. Pro-Life
Presidents Sign Pro-Life Legislation.
The pro-life Republican leadership
repeatedly passed pro-life legislation in the 1990’s only
to have it vetoed by President Clinton. President Bush
signed the Partial Birth Abortion Prohibition Act, the
Born Alive Infants Protection Act, the Unborn Victims of
Violence Act (Laci and Connor’s Law) and if given a
chance would sign the Child Interstate Abortion
Notification Act, the Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act
and among other things, he would have likely signed
legislation requiring ultrasounds be shown to women before
abortions.
2. Presidents
Institute Policies Impacting Abortion.
President Bush reinstituted President Reagan’s Mexico
City Policy banning funds to groups who counsel,
provide or promote abortion in other nations and vetoed
attempts led by Nevada Senator Harry Reid to
overturn this policy. The President withheld funds to
the UN Population Fund because it was supporting China’s
murderous One Child Policy which uses forced abortion.
What kind of government forces a mother to kill her
unborn child? Why has so called pro-life Senator Reid
supported funding for groups promoting abortion and why
has he opposed legislation to oppose coerced abortion?
3. Presidents Appoint
Officials to the National Institute of Health (NIH),
the CDC (Center for Damage Control), Health and
Human Services, lower court judges, federal attorneys and
more. All of these things impact abortion and treatment
of the unborn.
4. Pro-Life Presidents
Also Use The Presidential “Bully Pulpit.” It’s
impossible for long time pro-lifers to forget the impact
of
President Reagan’s pro-life advocacy. President
Bush’s
pro-life speeches in support of pro-life legislation
have been likewise impressive.
These are just some of the
things that pro-life presidents can do besides appointing
Supreme Court justices. There is no greater issue in
America than abortion and our almost 50 million unborn
casualties. Pro-life voters should not be under any
illusion that voting for a pro-choice candidate who
promises to appoint good Supreme Court justices will have
anywhere near the same impact on abortion as a pro-life
candidate.
