AJR3, the bill to have Nevada ratify so called Equal
Rights Amendment (ERA) to the United States
Constitution, is dead-for this session.
It died due to "Joint Standing Rule No. 14.3.1, no
further action allowed."
Thanks to everyone who sent emails, made phone calls or
packed the hearing room in March to oppose this
anti-life bill. We packed the hearing and after 2.5
hours of waiting through other bills,
the hearing was abruptly cancelled due to the
tremendous outpouring of opposition. And many thanks to
our pro-life colleagues for their tremendous work at
helping defeat this bill.
The defeat of ERA shows how important citizen
involvement is. A short email or phone call, or coming
to a hearing makes a huge difference. It's so much
easier today than ever before to make our voices heard.
Those voices are needed now more than ever. Last
November's elections were devastating to pro-lifers. And
as my pro-life colleague Richard Ziser reminded us
earlier this week, elections have consequences. We'll
need to be more proactive in these easy ways.
Why was ERA so bad? If ERA were ever to become an
amendment to the Constitution of the United States, it
would have devastating consequences for the unborn. It
would be used to invalidate state and federal laws in
all 50 states, including taxpayer funding bans, parental
notification, conscience clauses and more.
More information about ERA can be found in our Press
Release
ERA Amendment Will Strike Abortion Laws Nationwide,
or in the article on our website
ERA Abortion Bill In NV Legislature Has Nationwide
Impact. ERA would not only impact pro-life
protections for the unborn, it would have serious
consequences for families. Some of them are shocking.
You can read about them at
Eagle Forum's ERA page.
Thanks again to everyone for helping us defeating this
ugly anti-life bill.
